About the Author
Boyce Lundstrom, author and glass craftsman has written five books on glass, three of which are still in publication. His book "Kiln Firing Glass, Glass Fusing Book One" is referred to by most fusers as the "bible" for fusing process and has been a top-selling book for over 30 years. Boyce started Bullseye Glass Company in 1974. He sold that company to his partner in 1985, and then created a glass school called Camp Colton, outside of Portland, Oregon. His highest priority has been to create sustainable products using recycled glass, which led to the founding of Oceanside Glasstile Company in Carlsbad, California in 1992. After successfully establishing the largest production of mosaic and field tile made from recycled glass in the United States, Boyce moved on to create further lines of glass tile and other glass products made of recycled glass for Crossville Tile in Tennessee. Boyce continues to invent and create new glass processes, which are being presented, in his new series of books.

Sifting for instruction

This book is one of the worst "instructional" books that I have ever tried to use! Yes, the techniques are intriguing, but the author is promoting his own products throughout the book in order to achieve the effects. If you are just going to order these products from him, then you can follow along. If, like me, you were expecting to get some techniques that could be implemented independent of purchasing pre-mixed concoctions, it is really difficult to sift through. Given the complex and potentially dangerous nature of the chemicals that are strewn throughout the book, there is an abhorrent lack of technical instruction to accompany these suggestions. The book is very disorganized and the tips must be mined by the reader. The reader is left to their own device in most cases as to how to implement a chemical/technique that is not supported by a product ordered from the author.
This book was a HUGE disappointment.

Boyce Lundstrom has created new science that is different from fusing. he has shown us how to reduce copper trapped within two layers of float glass. I have produced over seven colors with copper and aluminum with Boyce's reactive dry enamels. The writing and explanations are easy to understand. At first I doubted you could Raku with glass but Boyce proved me wrong. Thank you Boyce!

I always loved the look of Raku pottery and now I get to experiment with a new style of Raku using glass. Boyce's latest reactive dry enamels hit the mark for me. After buying the book and materials, I enjoyed playing in my studio. Getting surprises each time I make a new Raku piece makes it feel like Christmas. Raku glass is all about the unexpected. Reactions with copper and other metals can range from the subtle to the dramatic. A refreshing change from the ordinary fused glass plates and jewelry I was used to. Yahoo Raku!
