An eye-opener

A great read, telling a story from the first person perspective made it personal and interesting, while it was obvious the author went to great lengths to back everything up with solid research. As a white male, I had to be ready to accept some of the points in this book and there were times in my life I may have discounted them. However, approaching the topic with an open mind and putting aside feelings of personal guilt and pride, I found great tools to approach race issues I've never had before.
After reading this book, I now understand several conversations throughout my life that had left me baffled. I have a new understanding of what may be driving reactions and statements from people, I have a way to check my own approach when dealing with race and other issues of privilege, and I'm better equipped to be a friend and advocate in the continuing fight for racial equality.

Clear, lucid prose used to tell an important story and outline ways to combat it. I work as a diversity practitioner, and this book helped me understand white people much better. I will recommend it to everyone who is looking for a text on white privilege.
