About the Author
Jack was born and raised on the South side of Chicago. At the ripe young age of 15 he absolutely fell, head over heels, in love with surfing. His friends asked him to try out their boards while on summer vacation in Michigan. He then became as he terms it, a surf-a-holic. He ate, breathed, and lived surfiing. After high school, to avoid the draft, he joined the Navy. There he spent almost 2 years aboard a nuclear submarine. During that time he married his high school sweetheart but also began to experiment with drugs. Through a series of heart-wrenching events he came to the end of his perverbial rope. He then began reading the Bible. God revealed Himself to Jack and he asked Jesus to take over his whole life. His whole included everything... except his surfboard. The day came when he even gave that to God. Then God really messed him up. He led Jack and his family to a ministry in Waikiki Beach. In 1984, a small Bible study of ex-drug dealers and users, under Jack's leadership became Hope Chapel South Shore. After 22 years of pastoring and surfing in Waikiki Beach, the Lord led Him and his wife back to Michigan to plant another church on a different beach. This beach is called WEKO Beach. Its in Bridgman MI on the shores of Lake Michigan. He is now 60 years old and he says he hasn't surfed for a long time. Its been two days now and he can't wait to get out again. Jack and his wife Maree have 3 sons. Two of them are Pastors and the other is a Youth director. Jack has two other books. An Interactive Bible Reading Guide and Personal Journal

"S - U - R - F - Journal: How to Have Daily Surf Sessions with God" is designed to encourage individuals to develop the rewarding experience of meeting God daily in meaningful Bible reading, prayer, and journaling. The acronym stands for: "Scripture, Understanding, Relevance, and Follow Up."
The book includes a schedule for reading the entire Bible through in one year or in smaller increments of the Old or New Testament. Jack encourages the reader to maintain a spirit of thankfulness in all things. The journal provides a daily opportunity to note five things for which you are thankful in your preparation to "enter into God's presence with thanksgiving."
The reader is given instructions for selecting a title and for each entry by date, entering them as a personal point of reference. These become the Table of Contents for the journal.
Jack shares how his father's life as a man of purity and integrity are attributed to his love for God's Word and his faithfulness in Bible reading. His father read the Bible from cover to cover each year for twenty-seven years. This heritage has left an indelible mark on Jack's life as well.
Over the years Pastor Jack has used the principles of the "S - U - R - F - Journal" with surfers in Hawaii and with the surfers at South Shore Fellowship on Lake Michigan. The journal is incorporated in their daily devotional reading and as a springboard for small group interactive studies. This model has been successfully used and has proven to be powerful in the lives of the participants. Their testimonies speak highly of the effectiveness of this Bible reading and journaling tool and of its influence on their individual spiritual journey.
