About the Author
Roger E. Kirk received his Ph.D. in experimental psychology from the Ohio State University and did postdoctoral study in mathematical psychology at the University of Michigan. He is a Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Statistics at Baylor University. He founded and, for 25 years, directed Baylor's Behavioral Statistics Ph.D. program and the Institute of Statistics, now the Department of Statistical Science. He has published extensively in the areas of statistics, psychoacoustics, and human engineering and is the author of five statistics books. His first book, Experimental Design: Procedures for the Behavioral Sciences, has been identified by the Institute for Scientific Information as one of the most frequently cited books in its field. Dr. Kirk is a fellow of the American Psychological Association (Divisions 1, 2, 5 and 13) and the American Psychological Society. He is a past president of the Society for Applied Multivariate Research, Division 5 of the American Psychological Association, and the Southwestern Psychological Association. In recognition of his teaching effectiveness, he was named the Outstanding Tenured Teacher in the College of Arts and Sciences and designated a Master Teacher, Baylor University's highest teaching honor. He is the 2005 recipient of the Jacob Cohen Award for Distinguished Contributions to Teaching and Mentoring from Division 5 of the American Psychological Association.

About the Author
Ray C. Mullin is a former electrical instructor for the Wisconsin Schools of Vocational, Technical, and Adult Education. Prior to his retirement, he served as district manager, regional manager, regional vice president, and ultimately director technical liaison for a major electrical manufacturer. He also served on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Code Making Panel 4 of the National Electrical Code. A former journeyman and supervisor for residential, commercial, and industrial installations, he has taught electrical apprentice and journeyman courses, conducted numerous technical and code seminars, written many articles for electrical trade publications, and consulted for electrical equipment manufacturers on legal issues. A former member of the Executive Board of the Western Section of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, he is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and NFPA, Electrical Section. He attended the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee School of Engineering, and Colorado State University.

Phil Simmons is the founder of Simmons Electrical Services, where he consults on the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other codes. Mr. Simmons also writes, edits, illustrates, and produces technical publications, and provides plan review of electrical construction documents and inspection of complex electrical installations. In addition to developing training programs related to electrical codes and safety, he has presented on these subjects at numerous seminars and conferences for universities, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI), the U.S. Department of Defense, and private clients. He has also consulted on lawsuits involving electrical injury and property damage and is the co-author and illustrator of numerous textbooks on electrical topics. Mr. Simmons serves NFPA on Code Making Panel 5 of the NEC Committee (grounding and bonding), and he previously served on several other Code Making Panels, on the NFPA Standards Council, the NEC Technical Correlating Committee, the IAEI, and Underwriters Laboratories. He is a retired member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

useful electrical construction book

I found this is a useful electrical construction book for Electrical Contractors, Electrical designers and Electrical Engineers.

It provides a table of the electrical loads of typical electrical devices and provides the method for calculating the loads, for that alone it is good to purchase. The book is mostly used to put the correct information on the drawings to get approved by the building department and to purchase the correct material for the electrical job.

It's not a primer for rookies unless use with proper instruction. It useful for learning to read Electrical Drawings. It does a good job on providing information for designing electrical small and large buildings from the service up. It touches on Fuses, Breakers, services, Lighting, motors, branch circuits and feeders. It has some good information on doing short circuit calculations and touches on coordination. It even provides a typical set of Electrical Drawings and typical offices.

It full of useful tables, illustrations and pictures to speed up design. I found it simple to use and found a person using this book on u tube that uses this book as a guide. What I liked about this book is that it is easy to read and does not get loaded down with a lots of NEC references or techno babble but does have the most required NEC references to do the job.

This is not a book for passing NEC code. It is for working document. I was surprised to find it. I found it while viewing a course on utube on "short circuit calculations by hand".

All in all it's not bad a book and is good for an advance course or refresher course on Electrical Construction Methods and Designs.

Great book for electrical engineers and technicians

Ok , being honest -- yes , this book has some typos especially when refering to drawings in the book but most of them are self evident. Let me say this -- this book will teach you electrical concepts -- the why and how electrical installations are done and equipment selected unlike other books . The flow of the book is so good that I can't stop reading it . I have been reading it now for a week straight . I am going to buy other books from these authors and from this publisher . Let me just say one thing -- if you plan on getting into the commercial and industrial electrical field, you WILL need this book . It is 600+ pages which says something and not a 150 page book which other reviewers will promote but you know that such a book never does justice to the subject . 600+ pages -- great authors and explanation of concepts , practical examples, pictures, code references -- what more could you ask ? Do yourself a favor and buy this . You cannot be without it on your job if you want to get ahead . If you don't , well , I can't help you .

Excellent Textbook. Well worth reading.

Excellent text on commercial wiring--one of the few out there. Well written and well illustrated. I am an experienced residential contractor and wanted a succinct introduction to commercial wiring and this book is exactly that. For a more in-depth study you'll need to invest in subject-specific texts (like transformers or power correction, etc.).

It was well worth the money and one I'll keep.

This is an excellent book if you want to begin to get an idea of how large and important the field of Nanotechnology will and is becoming, how many things will be able to be accomplished with a completely new set of rules at such a small level which we have only recently been able to produce the technology necessary to actually build molecules one atom at a time. This is in textbook format so I recommend taking a Nano class with this book so that you can get the most out of it.

About the Author
Harry Allard is the author of several hilarious books for children, including three books about Miss Nelson and�four books about the Stupid family, all illustrated by James Marshall. He currently lives in Oaxaca, Mexico.

James Marshall (1942–1992) created dozens of exuberant and captivating books for children, including The Stupids, Miss Nelson Is Missing!, and the ever-popular George and Martha books. Before creating his canon of classic, hilarious children’s books, James Marshall played the viola, studied French, and received a master’s degree from Trinity College. He also doodled. It was the doodles, and the unforgettable characters that emerged from them, that led him to his life’s work as one of the finest creators of children’s books of the twentieth century. In 2007, James Marshall was posthumously awarded the Laura Ingalls Wilder medal for his lasting contribution to literature for children.

Miss Nelson is Back

Miss Nelson is Back is written by James Marshall and Harry Allard, and was made for Miss Audrey Bruce.
This short story is about a group of nine children in classroom 209 with a teacher named Miss Nelson. When Miss Nelson is out for a week the children get a lesson taught to them that they will never forget.
Children will enjoy this book, because it is dealing with children and things that they go through.
Children can learn a good lesson for school about not messing with a substitute teacher , because one time you just might get a one that wont put up with any of their nonsence and could punish them very bad by possibly putting them in detention or worse.

Adrian is such a GOOD man

He really cares about people. He agonizes over whether he is doing the right things. He does not worry about what anyone looks like, or what they are wearing, or where they live or work or recreate. He wants to know what you can do for his community. A hairdresser is as valuable as a commando. A young man who is "slow" and his elderly dad are farmers, Adrian respects them, as they represent survival to the community. He sees the potential in people. A tiny 18-year old college girl becomes his lieutenant. Why, because she learns to shoot (a necessary survival skill in a world overrun by undead) and helps him clear houses. They work as a very effective team, he can trust her (and her skills). He accepts and respects people, and they respond to that. He is a natural leader.

The diary format of the books is important. You can see through Adrian's eyes. You see a bad@$$ giant tough guy, but from his soft and squishy inside. You love love love him.

One quibble. He become increasingly obsessed about Cassie and how thoroughly helpless she must have been. How he should have gone to Boston (20? miles away) during the zombie apocolypse and "saved" her somehow. What? It just sounds dumber and dumber the more he dwells on it. I kept thinking, "Oh shut up about that already, it would simply not have been possible". I also did not like the stereotype of the "helpless female". This fine author redeemed himself, however, with ALL his OTHER female characters. Gosh, how many sentences included the words "me, Abby and Patty"? Too many to count, folks!

All in all a series that has become dear to my heart. There are a couple of books of related stories that expand and deepen Adrian's world. I'm going to check those out. And then...
He has a couple books about --- DRAGONS!!!

The best zombie story on TV, paper, or film. Period.

I was late to the internet party at Adrian's...which meant that I could dive in and plow through the daily diary entries of an Average Joe surviving the zombie hordes. Lucky me! :) My wife wondered where I disappeared for two weeks!

This is a fantastic series.

The action is riveting, realistically brutal. You can feel Adrian's exhaustion, fear, and worry for those he protects.
The characters are well developed- you'll miss them when the story is over. They seem like old friends who're just gone for a bit.
There's absolutely none of the standard "Don't go down in the basement!" garbage. The men, women, and children fight to live as intelligently as you or I would. After most of the rest of this genre, it's refreshing.

This story is most of all about what it means to be a good person. The zombies are stand-ins for the darkness in the real world. Through Adrian, Chris excellently illustrates his clear belief that we have an individual obligation to protect those who are weak, to fight back ignorance and violence, and to make the world a better place for our daughters to live. We need more like Adrian.

Thanks for your writing, Chris! I'm looking forward to reading this expanded, polished version!

Easily the best Zompoc series ever written

I read a TON of Zompoc. This is absolutely the best series I have ever read. Trust me when I say these books are worse than Pringles. Once you pop the top, there's no stopping until you hit the bottom of the can (or the last page of book 8 in this case).

Adrian is an amazingly complex character that you will grow amazingly close to - along with many other characters - as his journey unfolds. As with many zompoc novels, it isn't really about the dead. It's about the living, the bonds they form with other survivors and the lengths they will go to keep themselves and those they grow to love in the wake of unthinkable circumstances safe and alive. What makes this different is what lays beneath the surface. There is much more going on here which separates this series from all the others and the most original origin story to date is just the beginning.

This is books 4-8 so if you haven't grabbed the first one, do it now! Clear your schedule and hold on...Philbrook has his foot firmly on the gas and isn't slowing down. You aren't going to want to put this one down for even a second!
